I think it would be very convenient to have a clear overview of all costs/expenses at the beginning of the visa process. In my experience, costs were stated in various documents.

Maybe one small thing related to housing. In my case it proved to be very difficult to find housing somewhere in Washington DC center. Not only is it incredibly expensive compared to any other city I’ve visited, there are various hurdles (12-month lease terms, minimum income requirements) that are convenient to know beforehand.

Then again, this could be very specific to housing in Washington DC.
