The J1 Research & Specialist Program at Stage-USA is designed to support international students and professionals seeking to engage in research activities in the United States. At Stage-USA we provide sponsorship for the J1 Research and Specialist visa and support to apply for this J1 visa category. It's important to note that we do not facilitate specific placements at organizations in the J1 research and Specialist categories. Our focus is on enabling scholars to find their own research opportunities while offering essential support throughout the process, for you to secure your J1 visa.
The program options
J1 Research Scholar (up to 5 years)
The J1 Research Scholar program allows international students or professionals to come to the United States to conduct research at U.S. companies, universities or research institutions. Participants can stay for an extended period of up to 5 years, enabling them to collaborate with American professionals and gain access to valuable resources and facilities. This program fosters cross-cultural exchange while enhancing the academic and professional abilities of scholars in various fields.
J1 Short-Term Scholar (up to 6 months)
The J1 Short-Term Scholar program is designed for international academics and professionals who wish to engage in research, lectures, or consultations for a shorter duration, typically lasting from a few weeks up to 6 months. This program provides an opportunity for scholars to collaborate with U.S. institutions, share their expertise, and immerse themselves in U.S. culture without the long-term commitment. It's an excellent way to foster relationships and gain insights into American academic practices.
J1 Specialist (up to 12 months)
The J1 Specialist program is tailored for individuals with specialized knowledge or expertise who are invited to the U.S. to share their skills in a specific field. This program usually lasts for the duration of 1 day to up to 1 year, allowing specialists to conduct presentations, consultations, or workshops at U.S. institutions. The J1 Specialist program promotes professional exchange and skill development, enhancing the host organization's capabilities while enriching the specialist's understanding of the U.S. system and practices.

- All J1 program participants must meet health insurance requirements throughout their stay in the U.S.. Stage-USA provides optional health and accident insurance.
- Each program category may have specific additional requirements; Stage-USA will provide additional requirements during your intake meeting.
