Meet Jacqueline in New York
"I was eager to build international experience and advance my career in marketing, and this seemed like the ideal way to achieve both." Find out more about Jacqueline experience in New York by continuing to read the full interview.
Why did you choose to go abroad?
I always had a dream of living in New York City for an extended period, but I wasn’t sure how to make it happen since securing a job and a work visa in the U.S. can be quite challenging. When I came across Stage Global and saw that they offered traineeships, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to finally experience life in New York. Beyond that, I was eager to build international experience and advance my career in marketing, and this seemed like the ideal way to achieve both.
How does the US culture differ from your culture and what has impressed you most so far?
Everyone’s experience is different, so not everyone may agree with what I’ve observed, but one of the main things I’ve noticed is how social and easy to talk to people are here, without any expectations. Another big difference is how age doesn’t seem to matter as much—people of all ages are out and about, enjoying life, and staying ambitious. In the Netherlands, when I join a new company or go out, I sometimes miss seeing people my age or older. Another thing that has really stood out to me is the presence of the American flag everywhere you go. It’s clear that Americans have a deep love for their country.
Could you take us for a day? What are your routines?
I work five days a week, 9 to 5. My day starts with getting ready, and if I have time, I stop by the coffee shop next door for my favorite iced chai latte with oat milk. Then I head to the office, which is located near Grand Central Station in Manhattan. At work, I review my goals and weekly plan, check emails, and monitor social media channels. I also meet with my boss to go over our schedule. After wrapping up at 5 PM, I leave the office.
If it’s been a long day, I go straight home. Otherwise, I love exploring the city and taking pictures for Instagram or my blog.
How has this experience abroad helped you to grow personally?
This experience has really helped me grow personally by boosting my confidence. Being here has made me more focused on myself and my own growth. Back home, it’s easy to get distracted by your surroundings, friends, and family, but here, I’ve had more time to concentrate on what I want to achieve. The preparation to get here took time and required patience, but it also motivated me to make the most of every moment. With limited time abroad, I’ve been driven to show up, experience, and learn as much as I can. It would be a missed opportunity not to take full advantage of it.
Why would you recommend others to do a program abroad?
I would highly recommend doing a program abroad because it’s an experience you’ll cherish and appreciate. It’s amazing to live in a different environment outside of your usual, trusted surroundings. You meet incredible people, grow as a person, and find yourself with more time and energy to explore and enjoy new things. It’s an opportunity I encourage others to take!
If you could express your experience in three words, what would these be?
Amazing, Spectacular, grateful!
